Welcome to the Batt Family Archive where you are able to read stories from across the generations and beyond.
I am connected to this family through my father, Richard Dean (Dick) BATT (1923-1994), who was a scientist, and his father John Charles (Jack) BATT (1883-1972), who was an engine-driver.
This archive includes tales in some way connected to one, two or several of the twelve generations of the Batt Family from Robert, who was born around 1555, until my father’s generation, the great-grandchildren of Edward Augustine and Eliza Batt of Witney. The majority of the stories are currently about the Witney period from around 1740 when Augustine and Jane Batt arrived in the town until 1886 when Eliza the widow of Edward Augustine died.
Many stories are about distant or very distant people with shared ancestry but in all cases a connection can be traced back to this central line.
I am now working on publishing my family tree online. It can be found at ancestry and is called “Witney Batt Family Tree.” You can also search this website and may find records and articles that are of interest to you.
If you are researching your family or local history and find a connection here, I may be able to help with data from my files. Please feel free to contact me.
Just because it is in writing doesn’t make it right.
By all means read my stories, but then double check what I have said. Go back to source documents and then make your own decision about the story’s validity.
I don’t remember anything before the 1960s and therefore I am telling stories about people I have never met and events I didn’t attend.
Read the articles in “Special Topics – cautionary tales” if you think that this doesn’t matter.
IMPORTANT! I strongly advise against downloading any of the content as it is regularly checked and will be updated whenever new information comes to light.
